My dear,

This grass

Will not do—

Let us sleep beneath

The young pine

我が背子は	My dear (husband)
仮廬作らす	Temporary bed making for
草なくは	Grass not
小松が下の	Young pine under ’s
草を刈らさね	Grass cut [さね = “please do” or “sleep together”]

It was believed that pine has some holy energy, so that the
narrator suggests she and her husband sleep together beneath the young pine.
