Kokinshu 1007 – "Slipping Away"

1007

Slipping away,
The one I love—
As I am broken.

What’s the flower
That bloomed in white
When we were one?

うちわたす
をち方人に
物まうすわれ
そのそこに
しろくさけるは
なにの花ぞも
Uchiwatasu
Ochikatabito ni
Mono mousu  ware
Sono soko ni
Shiroku sakeru wa
Nani no hana zo mo

Author unknown. As the poet’s lover has not visited recently, the poet complains and compares their experience to a blooming flower she is asking him to remember.
