Island in the Sea

There was an island, somewhere in the sea,
He sailed for miles away from any land,
Alone and guided by the stars he’d see
To distant shores on narrow strands of sand.

On setting foot, he looked at far-off peaks,
Arising past a thousand ancient pines,
Through which he climbed past cliff and creek
Until at night he stopped to pray for signs.

He woke as sunlight rose from morning’s sea
And heard the birds come out in choral song,
To sing a tune of when his heart was free
And of a place where still he could belong.

Within this journey through the clouds and sun,
We live the maze of life as dreams may come.
